falcon syahab ;)
I AM a 17-year-old student at smk sik and am aware of the issues on teaching science and mathematics in English. I support the efforts to do so as I have the experience of my mother asking me to use English in my daily life, especially when I speak with her.
My mother encouraged me to use English from a young age as we live in a kampung, where English is hardly used.
I would then study and practice English with my mum’s help. Through I was among this year SPM candidates. My brother get A- in english but he cannot applied to MAKTAB PERGURUAN for english subject.
I want to stress that English is not there for the purpose of learning only but is also important in daily life and for one’s future.
Think of it as a long-term preparation. For example, in my friend’s case, she missed her opportunity to get into that course. What if that had happened when she was being interviewed for a job or a scholarship?
Think how many of our children are going to miss their opportunity just because they lack language skills. Opportunities are in abundance when you are fluent in English.
I grew up using Bahasa Malaysia and practised the Malay culture. Being good in English does not make me less Malay but makes me proud as I am a Malay who is fluent in the global language.
I am not against Bahasa Malaysia, but I feel one ought to make a rational decision on this issue as it affects young Malaysians who are going to shape the future of the country one day.
Just let them study and learn in English. It does no harm.
I also always hear english music to improve my english school. So, you cannot disagree with me if I put english songs in my blog.
